Jason Corcoran

Jason Corcoran is an award-winning journalist and macroeconomics strategist who has lived in Russia for 12 years and covered the geopolitical upheaval of the former Soviet Union for 17 years. As a former senior correspondent for Bloomberg News, Dow Jones, the Financial Times, and a columnist for the Sunday Times, he has risen to become one of more foremost experts on Russian and CIS affairs, appearing frequently on television and radio shows to dissect the latest events.

A regular commentator in print globally, Jason’s opinion pieces and features have appeared in publications including The Sunday Times, The Washington PostThe Wall Street JournalThe GuardianThe Independent, the Irish Times, the Irish Independent, the Moscow Times, and Business Insider. He makes frequent television appearances around the world including on flagship television shows such as MSNBC’s the Last Word and Al Jazeera’s Listening Post and on radio for the BBC, RTE and ABC in Australia.

Jason has a BA in Journalism and French from Dublin City University (DCU) and recently finished a MA in International Security and Conflict Studies at DCU.  While living in Moscow, he completed a diploma in Russian at the Moscow State University.

For three years, he was a senior strategist at Macro-Advisory, the leading independent strategic advisory and macro analytics firm operating in Russia and the CIS.  Jason was the author of monthly reports analysing the energy industry in both Russia and the Caspian and contributor to reports on Russian politics and corruption.

Jason was the commissioning editor of Russian capital markets supplements printed in the Wall Street Journal and editor of the annual Guide to Investing, published by Micex, the leading Russian stock exchange, in conjunction with Institutional Investor.

He has hosted seminars and discussions for Bloomberg News, the Irish Development Authority (IDA) and roundtables in his capacity as director of the Irish International Business Network (IIBN).

Prior to moving to Russia, Jason was awarded several honours for investigative financial journalism in the UK, including best fund management journalist by State Street Global Advisors for work in identifying pension mis-selling and best Investment Journalist by Aon Consulting at an event held in the House of Commons.
