Professor Jonathan Haskel has been appointed to the nine-strong rate-setting committee at the Bank of England, the Treasury announced on Thursday. The professor of economics at Imperial College Business School will replace the outgoing Ian Mcafferty as an external member for a three-year term starting on September 1. He won out in a process that shortlisted him and four women out of a total of 27 applicants, showing that the Treasury and BoE are still struggling to boost the number of senior women in monetary policymaking. Prof Haskell lists his main research interests as productivity, innovation, intangible investment and growth.
